Welcome back to another Sweet Treat Sunday Recipe! This week’s feature was dairy-free Oreo brownies. A must-try!
What you’ll need:
DRY INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups + 1 tbsp flour (I used GF 1:1 flour)
1 3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups + tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
~10-15 crumbled Oreos
2.3 oz dark chocolate
WET INGREDIENTS:
1 cup Ripple chocolate pea protein milk (or milk of choice)
2 eggs (flax eggs for vegan)
1 cup + 3 tbsp vegetable oil or coconut oil
There are a lot of great nutrients in this recipe! This is a very chocolate-rich dessert, so let’s chat a little bit about how chocolate helps nourish and support your body.
Chocolate is a well-known antioxidant (supports cellular health). Dark chocolate has been proven to support heart health as well. Now, I am allergic to chocolate (Lysny here), so I beg that everyone makes this recipe and enjoys it, for me, who cannot! The antioxidants I mentioned have been found to specifically support cardiovascular cell health. Chocolate lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of clotting, and increases blood circulation to the heart. Clotting and poor circulation are risk factors that increase the chance of stroke and heart disease.
Chocolate is also high in iron, magnesium, copper, and manganese. Iron and copper support the cardiovascular system, as does manganese. Manganese also supports the body’s growth and maintenance of connective tissue and bones. Magnesium is essential for nerve signaling and communication.
The flavanol in chocolate can also help protect your skin against sun damage. The way this works is by increasing blood flow to the skin which improves density and hydration. Our skin burns easiest when it is driest! As a swimmer from Florida, I can definitely attest to this.
Okay, the part you’ve been waiting for…here’s how to make the recipe:
-
Preheat oven to 320 F
-
Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl
-
In a separate bowl, whisk the pea protein milk, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract
-
Add wet mixture to the dry mixture.
-
Pour batter into a lined baking tray and add crumbled Oreo pieces on top.
-
Bake for 30-35 min, until a toothpick comes out clean
-
Melt dark chocolate and drizzle over brownies after they’ve cooled
-
Allow dark chocolate to harden and serve!
Enjoy this sweet treat! And, remember there are no bad foods, and you don’t have to do anything to deserve a sweet treat <3
